The Art of Sutra

Sutra comes from Sanskrit, the ancient and sacred language of India. It also describes the teachings of the Buddha, the enlightened being who have mastered the truth, the knowledge and path of liberating the soul from samsara (continuous cycle of birth). Living is an Art, and Life is a blessing. Everything I do in my artwork – is a reflection of who I am – my soul mission and my contribution to humanity.

Hindu and Buddha
There are much to learn from the Hindus in Bali and their way of life. The power and mystics of their religion, Hindu Dharma, govern the people and culture. This belief is based on one of the most ancient and oldest religions in the world, the Hindu and the Buddha. Here in this little peaceful island, the two religions are merged into one, which is commonly referred as Siwa Buddha or the more formal term Hindu Dharma.

Based on historical records, the practices and teachings of Hindu Dharma were influenced by Hinduism from India and Buddhism from China and Tibet. As time goes by, the two separate faiths with its branches are united and merged comfortably into one practice and teaching which you will find today.

What makes the union possible? Where and when in all other areas, lines and separations of Hindu and Buddha faiths are very clear. You might agree that the X factor behind the unification is the land of Bali. This land is sacred, the center point of two energies, the Yin and Yang. The Hindu and Buddha faiths believe in these two forces of energy and what is even more powerful is the UNIFYING FORCE that balances the positive and negative energy. And this force is continually maintained by the devotions of the Balinese through their rituals and religious customs to keep the balance of positive and negative energy not only in Bali but the whole world.

During the 14th century, when Islam propagation was widely spread in Indonesia. The Hindu Kingdom Majapahit in Java was converted to Islam, turning other areas the same fate except Bali. Thanks to Hindu sage, Dang Hyang Nirartha who spiritually fortified the island of Bali by meditating and praying in various energy points from North to South of Bali.

Mount Agung, the top of Mount Himalaya
There was a legend that says, one of the mountains in Himalaya in India was chopped off and carried by Garutman, brought it to East Java, which became Mount Semeru and the top was flown to Bali that became Mount Agung.

Mount Agung is the seat of all forces in Bali, where the Pura Besakih complex is laid on the slope of the mountain.
